Roy Carroll and David Fuster were Olympiacos’ heroes as the Greek champions took a significant step towards the last 16 of the Europa League with a first-leg victory over Rubin Kazan in Moscow.
Fuster netted the only goal of the game in the 72nd minute but veteran goalkeeper Carroll, on his debut, also played a key part in the win by saving a penalty from Bebras Natcho with his first touch after coming on in the 73rd minute.
The Russians have a very difficult task tonight: to break through the defensive line which in the last 12 games received only 2 goals.
Olympiakos by the end of the Greek Cup have to play without his attacker Marko Pantelic who was injured on training. Serbian injured ankle and underwent surgery yesterday. Balazs Megyeri (goalkeeper) is suspended in the first match. Francois Modesto, Olof Mellberg, Kevin Mirallas and Yiannis Maniatis have followed the team’s training.
Rubin will be in full attendance.
